A graceful, long-lived Australian native tree with fine, grey-green, needle-like branchlets that give a soft, weeping appearance. Allocasuarina luehmannii is a hardy species well adapted to dry inland areas and poor soils. It provides valuable habitat and food for native birds and insects, particularly seed-eating species such as cockatoos. The timber, known as Buloke, is extremely dense and durable.

Growing Conditions: Prefers full sun and open positions. Very low water requirements once established. Tolerates frost, wind and extended dry periods.

Soil Type: Well-drained sandy, loamy or clay soils. Tolerant of poor and compacted soils.

Special Features: Excellent for windbreaks, shelterbelts, and habitat restoration. Ideal for rural or large landscape plantings where durability, drought resistance and wildlife value are desired.
