Height: 4 m – Spread: 4 m

Banksia lehmanniana, commonly known as the Yellow Lantern Banksia, is a unique Western Australian species that has proven adaptable to the eastern states. This ornamental shrub is notable for its distinctive pendant flowers that hang down from the stems, setting it apart from most banksias. The flowers begin as rich brown buds before opening to reveal vibrant yellow blooms, creating a stunning contrast with its dense, lush green foliage and golden new growth.

This medium shrub can tolerate some drought and light frost once established, as well as exposure to coastal conditions and wind. As banksias are phosphorus sensitive, using a good native fertiliser during feeding time is recommended for optimal growth.

Growing Conditions: Prefers full sun to light shade and thrives in warm temperate, cool temperate, Mediterranean, and semi-arid climates.

Soil Type: Adaptable to sandy, clay, loamy, sandy loam, and clay loam soils, requiring well-drained conditions for optimal development.

Special Features: Features decorative fruit and is pollution tolerant, making it suitable for low-maintenance gardens, poolside areas, and flower gardens. It is also playground friendly and fast-growing.
