A medium to large evergreen shrub or small tree, Banksia media is renowned for its large, heavily scented flower spikes that range in colour from pale yellow to rich orange-brown. The flower buds are especially striking, making a bold statement in the garden before opening to attract nectar-feeding birds, bees and other beneficial insects. With dense foliage and a spreading habit, this species is both ornamental and functional.
Growing Conditions:
Performs best in full sun to part shade. Tolerates coastal conditions including salt spray and strong winds. Frost and drought tolerant once established.
Soil Type:
Thrives in well-drained sandy, loamy, or clay loam soils. Tolerates mildly saline and alkaline soils. Use a low-phosphorus native fertiliser.
