It all began over 15 years ago when Michelle Danisch and her mother founded a small business called Plants Handmade for You. Every weekend, they travelled across the Wimmera region, attending local markets where they built lasting friendships and inspired others with their passion for plants.

In 2020, as lockdowns disrupted life across Victoria, Rick Danisch found himself with time away from work and turned his attention to the garden. His growing enthusiasm for plants led to a chance opportunity with the local Landcare group, where he was asked to grow a few plants from seed. The experience sparked a genuine passion, which eventually led him to join Michelle at the nursery where she worked.

As market life became more physically demanding, Michelle and Rick decided to take a new path. In 2024, they launched Desert Blooms Nursery — a family-run business that allowed them to create a more sustainable and rewarding way to share their love of plants with the community.

Today, Desert Blooms Nursery specialises in locally grown, climate-adapted plants, with a strong focus on local indigenous species and Western Australian natives. Seeds and cuttings are carefully sourced from the region to ensure strong germination and healthy, resilient plants. Alongside their botanical range, the nursery also offers locally grown cut flowers, home décor, kokedamas, bonsai, and carefully selected non-native plants sourced from trusted suppliers.

Desert Blooms Nursery is more than a business — it’s an expression of Michelle and Rick’s shared values and commitment to community, sustainability, and the beauty of Australian plants.
